This semester, freshman students were given many unique and interesting projects and assignments to complete by numerous teachers at Piper High School.
“Mrs. Golden had us do a project where we had to make a Nutshell Box and create a childhood memory that impacted us,” said Min Radolia, 9.
The project focused on a significant event that impacted students in their life. They were given full creative freedom to make objects and decorations of their choosing to add to the box.
“Mrs. Golden always comes up with new and interesting ideas that make class fun for us,” said Layla Groneman, 9.
Along with Mrs. Golden, there are some other freshman teachers who have also been creating unique assignments and projects for their students to learn with.
“Mrs. Turner sometimes comes up with cool ways for us to learn math,” said Rachel Malsawmhlui, 9. “For example, we got to make our own 3D shape to learn about scale factor.”
Students were able to double the size of their shape by using scale factor and after they were finished, they got to color their shape to put as decoration for Mrs. Turner’s classroom at the new Piper High School building next year.
Mrs. Cole is also being creative in how she approaches her content.
“I like exploring new languages in Concert Choir when we sing songs. It’s cool to learn about different cultures and songs in their language,” said Malsawmhlui.
To break up the monotony of a school day, it’s important that teachers come up with meaningful, interesting projects and present information through lenses and perspectives students will enjoy.
“I think creative projects are important because it’s a break from regular work and more students want to learn when it’s something they’re interested in,” said Malsawmhlui.
