The transition from middle to high school is a big one in students’ lives. From shifts in work loads to more club or team involvement, it’s a year of adjustment for freshmen.
“Honestly, it hasn’t been that bad,” said freshman Maverick Baker. “In 8th grade I thought it would be very scary first time entering. After a decent time, it isn’t even that bad.“
It’s not just freshman who are new to Piper High School. Transfers like Logan Lux come throughout the year and have to quickly adjust to a new school.
“When I first came here, I was kinda nervous,” said Lux. “But honestly, everyone here is actually pretty nice and chill.”
In interviews, many students agreed that the difficulty spike between the grades 8th and 9th is one of the hardest challenges.
“I would say that, compared to middle school, high school is a huge leap in work,” said freshman Carson Denney. “Unlike middle school, [high school teachers] don’t really hold your hand with notes now.”
